How to Reset SFTP/SSH and Database Passwords

Whenever you set up a new Bolt and/or site you’ll get a popup window with all SFTP/SSH and database login credentials. This will only be shown one time so be prepared to save it somewhere safe. However do you not remember your passwords you’ll have to generate new ones. With us, that is quite simple though!

Note! Always use a password which is 12 characters long with letters, numbers and symbols. This will ensure your site’s safety

How to reset your SSH/SFTP password

Log in to your account and navigate to the Bolt where you have your site. Click the site in question and the first screen you should see is your server login information. Here you’ll see a Reset SSH/SFTP Password button. Clicking that will redirect you to a page where you can set a new password.

Clicking that will redirect you to a page where you can set a new password. If you don’t have a safe password in mind you can always use the Generate Password button.

How to reset your database password

Same as before, log in and navigate to your Bolt. Here you should see your Databases tab in the left menu. Going into that you should see all your databases, choose the one that corresponds with your site, and click the Set Password button. You’ll get the same option to set a new password or generate a safe one.

Remember that changing your database password can break your site unless you also update your site’s config file. You can find more information about config file in this article.
