Creating a staging site or testing a change shouldn’t slow you down. It should be fast, simple, and safe – the Servebolt way.
That’s exactly what our new Site Copy feature delivers. It’s a long-awaited addition to the Servebolt Admin Panel that lets you copy or sync any site on the same Bolt, including all files, databases, and PHP settings, with just a few clicks.
Whether you’re preparing a redesign, testing a new plugin, or syncing changes from staging back to production, Site Copy comes to the rescue.
Perfect for Staging, Testing, and Development
Developers, agencies, and site owners know the pain of manually cloning a site – exporting databases, uploading files, updating configurations, and crossing your fingers that nothing breaks. Site Copy eliminates that hassle entirely.
With Site Copy, you can:
- Create a staging site in seconds, no plugins or third-party tools required
- Test updates safely without affecting your live site
- Duplicate websites for new projects or experiments
- Collaborate with teams on changes before deployment
But Site Copy isn’t just for developers or agencies; it’s for anyone who wants to move faster without breaking things. Whether you’re preparing a redesign, testing a new plugin, or experimenting with a new idea, you can now do it with confidence and without the complexity. It’s an elegant solution built right into your workflow, designed to make development and testing faster, cleaner, and more dependable. All without leaving your Servebolt Admin Panel.
Why We Built Site Copy
This one’s special, because it started with you. Site Copy has been one of the most requested features on our public roadmap. Developers, agencies, and site owners all asked for the same thing:
“I want a simple, straightforward way to create a staging environment right inside the Admin Panel.”
You asked, and we delivered. Now, instead of managing staging plugins or jumping through manual steps, you can create fully functional site copies right where you manage everything else, within your Servebolt Bolt.
(If you were one of those who voted for it on our public roadmap, thank you, this one’s for you.)
How It Works (Without the Headache)
You’ll find Site Copy inside your Servebolt Admin Panel, under each site’s settings.

From there, you can choose to copy your live site to a staging site or sync from staging back to production. It works between any sites on the same Bolt.
When you start a copy, Servebolt checks your Bolt automatically, confirming you have enough disk space, and that everything is ready to go. Then the sync begins.
If your site runs on WordPress, the process becomes even smarter. We detect the installation, copy all data and the database, update the wp-config.php with new credentials, and automatically run a search-and-replace with WP-CLI to update URLs and paths. Even uploads are handled for you, with caches, backups, and logs neatly excluded.
By the time it’s done, your new site is ready, fully functional, correctly configured, and live inside your Bolt.
Limitations (for now)
While Site Copy is powerful, there are a few things to keep in mind:
- It only works between sites within the same Bolt.
- Multisite WordPress setups still require manual configuration.
- You can’t yet set a custom domain for the destination site during the copy process.
These limitations help us maintain precision and reliability, but we’re already exploring future enhancements.
