Farewell to “Production Environments”: Now we’re calling them “Live Sites”

We’re excited to share a small but meaningful change in how we talk about one of the most powerful features of every Bolt: environments. This isn’t exactly an update to any of Servebolt’s services; instead, it’s a heads-up that we’re changing the terminology for something we’ve always called “environments” and adopting the more industry-standard term “websites.” Starting today, what we’ve previously referred to as Production Environments will now be called Live Sites.

This change is all about clarity and making it easier for our customers, both new and existing, to understand the role of each environment within a Bolt.

Why We’re Making This Change

At Servebolt, we believe in simplifying complexity without compromising performance. While “Production Environment” is a term familiar to developers, we’ve found that it often causes unnecessary confusion, especially for non-technical teams managing websites and online stores.

Live Site is a clearer, more intuitive term that reflects the core function of this environment: it’s the live version of your site, what your visitors and customers see and interact with.

This update aligns with our ongoing mission to make powerful performance infrastructure more accessible and easier to manage for all teams.

What’s Changing (and What’s Not)

Here’s what you can expect:

  • New Terminology: In our dashboard, documentation, support guides, and across our website (including our pricing page), the term “Production Environment” will now appear as Live Site.
  • No Functional Changes: This is a naming change only. The capabilities, performance, and architecture of your environments remain unchanged.
  • No Pricing Changes: This change does not affect the cost of your plan or your environments. Live Sites follow the same pricing model as Production Environments did – no hidden fees or surprises.
  • Improved Clarity: We’re updating our language across the board to ensure consistency and make the purpose of each environment more immediately obvious.

Every Bolt Still Supports Multiple Environments

Each Bolt at Servebolt includes support for multiple environments: Live, Staging, Development, and more, giving teams the flexibility to build, test, and launch without compromise.

These environments are completely isolated from one another, allowing you to:

  • Develop and test safely in Staging or Development environments
  • Deploy confidently to your Live Site without affecting works in progress
  • Easily duplicate environments using built-in server tools

Looking Ahead

This is part of a broader effort to simplify and modernize how we talk about our platform. We’re always listening to feedback and looking for ways to make Servebolt’s power more approachable, without losing the technical excellence that’s central to everything we do.

Have feedback or questions about the change? Reach out to us, we’d love to hear from you.
